Profit which is then fed back into Washington vis a vis taxes, which helps fund social saftey nets.As much as I'd like to see us move away from a car and petrol based transport and energy system, the reality is that gas is A) vital to the continuance of human civilization as we currently understand it and B) our unwillingness to tap in to our own resources for whatever reason results in us either being held by the balls by wackos and sand princes or us sending our own hometown boys and girls into hellholes to secure it. I'm not someone who's against alternatives. Far far from. But the situation is critical NOW and the other options are decades if not generations in the horizion, even if we had started yesterday. |
