If we're going to tie religious figures to political parties, as italianstallion, bingbong, and Selkirk are going to do, we should not forget the Rev Wright, and his direct relationship to Obama.I assure you that if I'd intended to do that, I would have referred to Mr. Robertson's 1988 GOP presidential candidacy, and his role as a kingmaker (which I guess is in doubt after his failed effort to promote Rudolph Giuliani) and super fundraiser. My intent was simply to let the comments of a fanatic speak for themselves. I do agree with what former Republican Arlen Specter said during his ill-fated 1996 presidential campaign: Neither this nation nor this party can afford a Republican candidate so captive to the demands of the intolerant right that we end up re-electing a President of the incompetent left. |
