In my view, the breakup was happening due to the nationalism that had built up, post-communist collapse. By that point in time, nothing short of wholesale divine intervention was going to patch things up in that former country. The goal as I see it was to end the civil war and atrocities as soon as possible, and the air strikes achieved that.No, there would not have been a civil war if Helmut Kohl had not unilaterally recognized the independence of Croatia and Slovenia. The breakup was instigated by Germany. Kohl even threatened a rift with the USA if they didn't go along with Germany. |
