We were fighting Helmut Kohl's war to break up the Balkans.In my view, the breakup was happening due to the nationalism that had built up, post-communist collapse. By that point in time, nothing short of wholesale divine intervention was going to patch things up in that former country. The goal as I see it was to end the civil war and atrocities as soon as possible, and the air strikes achieved that. 15 years later, things are slowly getting better. The nationalist evils haven't been banished forever, but people seem less receptive to such talk nowadays, and for good reason. |
