Oh, trust me....I know exactly. I guess living here makes me immune to noticing "other people", as I am so used to it. I have no problem walking through "mixed" neighborhoods, going to stores where "I" am the minority, etc. But I know full well there are many that aren't like that, and "freak". Most people from a "lily white" neighborhood would freak at the deli I get my bacon/egg/cheese sandwich at sometimes.
And yes, it can bring a "giggle" when I think of certain people I know if they would "walk in" how they would react.

It's funny, I remember the first time I stayed in New Orleans, I had a hotel (Radisson) way way way down Canal St over by I10, and that is sort of on the "out skirts" of where the tourist area ends, and you have to remember that New Orleans, since the slave days is about 80% black. Well, to get to "Bourbon St", or the French Quarter, or the Riverfront, or any of the tourist parts people come to NO for, you had to walk down Canal St for some blocks (or take the hotel shuttle bus). We often chose to walk, which was fine, but I can just imagine some "tourist" from let's say "Sayville, NY" (a fairly lily white area) and dropped them down on that stretch of Canal St..... I can smirk just thinking about it.... I SAW some older tourists walking out the front door of the hotel, freaking out, and running into the shittle bus to the French QUarter as fast as they could.
They obviously didn't know what "New Orleans" was like, lol....

Hey, it is funny....it's all what people are used to.

Personally, I think the race relations in NO was way better than many other places I have been.
