I have hundreds of video cassettes in storage that need to be transferred. I had started on the project late last year, using an old VCR that my mom no longer needed and gave to me, which I hooked up to the input ports of my DVD recorder, but after going through about 20 or so, the VCR crapped out (I think the heads went, as the tape would play, but there was noise every few seconds. The record heads had already gone bad a few years earlier, which is why my mom had stopped using it). So that was the end of that. Then, earlier this year, the DVD recorder itself died (after only 1 1/2 years of service) :( I may eventually get one of those VCR/DVD combos where you can record internally, but many of those now only take input from cable boxes w/ RCA inputs (rather than a coax line driect from the cable), so if I got one of those, I could transfer from VHS to DVD, but wouldn't be able to record from the cable. (I refuse to get BOMBcast's digital service, I'm holding out until I absolutely have no choice). But then again, I can't record now anyway, and most of the shows I watch can be seen online anyway, so... I just worry about how long they'll continue to sell the VHS/DVD combos. I have another problem in that I need to transfer my audio cassettes to mp3. I have one of those ION turntables to transfer vinyl to mp3 (though I haven't gotten around to hooking it up to the computer yet), and it has a line input for a cassette deck, the problem now is finding one. Unlike the VHS/DVDs which I've seen at Target and other places, no one seems to have cassette decks anymore, I may have to end up finding one online. It's sad when technology passes you by :(
