Posted by Train Dude on Wed Nov 7 18:05:35 2007 Talk about political correctness running amok;MASCOUTAH, Ill. (AP) Two hugs equal two days of after-school detention for 13-year-old Megan Coulter. She's an eighth-grader at Mascoutah Middle School, east of St. Louis. She received the punishment for violating a school policy banning public displays of affection. She served the first suspension yesterday, and plans to serve the second today. Megan says she was just giving two friends a hug goodbye for the weekend. But School District Superintendent Sam McGowen says he thinks the penalty is fair. He says school administrators were following the policy contained in the student handbook. Megan's parents plan to ask the school board to consider making the policy more specific in what is considered a display of affection.
