Guilt by association is de rigeur these days.

Yep. And both the right and the left do this. :(

My rule of thumb is that 5% of any group, more or less, are really bad people. No exceptions, just slight variations in the percentage.

This applies both to ethnicity and to job description. (OK, maybe higher for self-employed debt collectors and similar specialties, but in general ...)
