You wouldn’t have worked for minimum wage because you would have been paid what the market can bear. Anyone who offered only minimum wage would simply find no takers. The same thing would be true if it became known that a particular employer was capricious and arbitrary.At the same time, being unable to fire anyone creates problems when actually bad employees can’t be let go. I don’t know how it was in your union, but there are unions in which firing people is next to impossible; this is why the Board of Ed has “rubber rooms.” Then there is union rent-seeking. An example of which is how the longshoremen’s union is preventing port automation, or how the TWU lobbied the state legislature to enshrine two person train operation into law. |
