Wind actually doesn't have the uptime you might expect except perhaps on the plains. If the wind isn't blowing, no power. And the turbine actually doesn't kick in unless the wind is above a certain amount - I think 6 MPH or so sustained - and when the wind exceeds a certain amount - I think 25 MPH or so, it cuts out due to overspeed. There are large periods of time in the northern climbs where the turbines ain't whirring.Out OFFSHORE however, the conditions are a bit more favorable ... |
