Cocaine is any easy one. I just have to interact with one of the people who mumbles stuff to me as I walk through Washington Square Park.

I think it used to be possible to buy drugs in Washington Square Park years ago simply because the police didn't care, thus it became tacit decriminalization. I was referring to an environment where the laws are actually enforced. In another example of making something illegal actually discouraging illegal behavior: Speed cameras actually lower rates of speeding; revenues from speed cameras go down over time.

That implies a lot of people are acquiring it without getting caught.

Photos and videos are non-rivalrous goods and millions of them take up hardly any space.

Since you mention reading about busts, I wouldn't be surprised if many of the people busted for trying to obtain illegal goods are busted for it the very first time they tried to get it. Like the people on To Catch A Predator who claim they had never done anything like that before. Those people wanted to do something badly enough, but couldn't find it in real life because the laws were being well enforced.

The argument I was making was that prohibition didn't work because "if you want something bad enough you can always find it." Prohibition DID work; alcohol consumption went down significantly and never even came close to recovering until after prohibition ended.
