Thanks for posting that article. Very interesting. But it doesn't refute the fact that alcohol was available if you knew where to get it. That was my point.Growing up in Woodside, my parents told me of a "speakeasy" that was located on 39th Ave & 65th St (the current location of Gleasons Paint Supplies) Alcohol flowed freely there as long as the local police from the 110 Pct were taken care of. Thats just one example of night clubs that flourished in different neighborhoods, as long as you kept the local police on the "pad". Corruption and bootlegging were out of control. Weather prohibition was successful is open for debate depending on what side of the fence (bar?) you're on. My opinion is that it did more harm than good. |
