The online left, which Mamdani is a product of, is spectacularly illiberal. Their method of suppressing opposing views is by claiming that things are “hate speech” or are “microägressions” or “triggering”.

I agree. But this is quite different from advocating the imprisonment of people (or actually imprisoning them) for having opposing views.

Hard core members of the CPUSA in the 1930s actually defended Stalin's actions.
