I also disagree with the second.First, the Renaissance is overrated. It gave us great art, but the Americas didn’t get any of that. Culturally it was not an improvement over the Late Middle Ages. All of those positive things came about in the 20th Century and so had little to do with European colonization, except tangentially as being part of history before the 20th Century. That having been said, Europe was going to discover the Americas sooner or later, and as Europe was more technologically advanced and had greater disease immunity, they were going to win regardless, and this was going to happen long before they became enlightened enough to treat other peoples as equals. |
