There's a lot of things to consider about insurance companies. Like if they'll pay the bill. Like if they steer you to their shops and get you an inferior repair. Like they won't arbitrarily total your car. Sometimes it's worth paying a touch more for the service you'll get when the chips are down and the tires are flat.

I don't think allowing "free enterprise" run the show is necessarily what we want. Especially since car insurance is mandatory in most states now.
