You further display your ignorance.January 1 is not the New Year for the Jews and never has been. The name of the month "January" comes from a god called Janus (eek, a god, how pesky); therefore it is Roman in origin and anything but secular (Janus' two heads symbolized looking forward to the new year and back at the old year on the first day of the month named after him). Setting the New Year at a date following the winter solstice also goes back to ancient Babylon and Assyria. Further, the Catholic Church regards it as the beginning of their new year, heaping even more religious connotations upon it. Are you suddenly Catholic? |
