To be frank, it didn't diverge from the Hebrew religion; but it certainly diverged from the corruptions in the Jewish religion that were injected by association with the non-Jewish religions around them (those of Edom, Ammon, Moab, Babylon, Philistia, Assyria, Egypt ad nauseam).Or alternatively, the Jewish religion is probably a more corrupt form of a proto-Semitic religion than those of its neighbours, and moving closer to the neighbours was counterintuitively purification of the religion... |
