Keeping Patton in Britain was a major part of the deception plan. Also, his popularity at home dropped due to the 2 slapping incidents. (There was 2, even though the movie had one) But the Germans couldn't imagine an invasion without him and having him by the British port closest to Calaise was a very convincing deception.By the way, I read Patton's diaries and after the war ended before he died he made some very anti-Semitic posts. |
