Re: 76 YEARS AGO TODAY: JUNE 6, 1944: THE LONGEST DAY IN HISTORY

This is what I mis Sarge when I'm off the boardfor even one day. On June 6th, 1944, we got a big break on the landing as well as a kick in the ass as well. The break? Hitler thought the invasion was a ruse, that the big attack would come along the narrower area between England and France---Calais, and he kept two crack armoned divisions back for the "real invasion. Good for us because the Germans had 57 divisions in France and could have possibly driven us into the sea if they had used the strength they had. They didn't. The kick in the pants was Eisenhower, in my opinion a very good President but a totally shitty general. He had Omar Bradley and British Gl. Bernard Montgomery to lead the attack, and we spend close to two months slogging over the hedgerows gaining inches and feet instead of miles. Meanwhile our best general, George S. Patton was marooned in England because t hey they thought the Nazis wouldn't commit their best forces in NOrmandy because the real attack would be led by Patton.

That may seem smart to some but dumb to me because as soon at GSP was put in charge of the Third Army he took his forces west, south and mostly east and roared through France until he was stupidly stopped because he couldn't get gasoline to hit the German western wall and plunge into Germany. I'll leave you with this Sarge and others who might be tired of reading my missive. Paton then had to divert his forces north into Belgium when Monty and Bradley got spoofed with the sudden German attack in the Bulge on Dec. 16. Patton saved all their asses. It is very possible the war was extended for another four of five months because of these blunders by Ike. We could have taken Berlin and stopped the Russians before they got very far in Germany. Thank you for reading.
