I agree that Buttigeig is a sharp, dynamic candidate, who can galvanize the Democratic party, like Obama did in 2008. He is young, telegenic, and possesses a solid grasp of realpolitik.

Whether the country is truly ready for an openly gay candidate after electing an anti-LGBT figure like Trump, remains to be seen. Support for marriage equality isn't the same as supporting a gay man in the White House. Buttigeig is very astute I not portraying himself as only representing the gay community, but emphasizing his broad, mainstream appeal. That said, I do know he has it in his plans to be a very visible presence among the LGBTQ community anyway, as this is part of his appeal--as an underdog candidate, something he has in common with both Obama and Carter, which you correctly point out.

I will have the chance to meet him in about six weeks, and hear for myself what he has to say on all the issues. Is he a Trump-slayer? We'll see what develops...but right now, he still has much work to do.
