U-6 or some other measure of all those not employed, including those not looking, is a valid item for consideration as long as it is considered with care. One needs to ask, why are so many people not looking for work?To the extent that they are like CMM and have chosen not to bother, that's fine, even if slightly unfortunate. The country would be better off if CMM were still earning and spending more money. But to the extent that they have gotten so discouraged they don't bother to look any more, it's worse. Not that we ever get any serious examination of this issue from cosnervatives. |
