I was listening to Mr. Insomnia, Richard Neer, last night and he spoke about The Nightbird. He related when he was an immature newbie at WNEW he would show up at the studio to replace her with like a couple three minutes to spare. He mentioned Allison finally confronted him at the end of the hall and told him it was not professional to throw on a long play at the start of his set so he could quote settle in and get caught up unquote. Neer stated she was right and appreciated that she never dressed him down in front of peers or took it to management - I suppose almost everyone has at least some redeeming qualities. By the way, Neer's book, FM: The Rise and Fall of Rock Radio, is a good read. |
