No one on either side of the Garner case has suggested that the incident arose out of anything other than loosies. Moreover, even if Garner was suspected of a felony, the police could have, should have taken him into custody without killing him.

Consider a different case for a moment. Maksim Gelman, a white man from Brighton Beach, ran rampant through Brooklyn for two days, killing four and severely injuring five, before somehow finding his way onto a (3) train at Times Square. After cutting one of the passengers open from ear to ear, he began banging on the train operator's cab door. When the two cops inside (who were among those assigned to look for him) emerged from the cab, Gelman, bloody knife in hand, charged the cops. By some miracle of incredible human restraint, the cops were able to disarm and arrest Gelman without injuring him at all.

Compare and contrast with Eric Garner, who couldn't be placed under arrest for a very trivial offense, without having the life choked out of him.
