Answer: Paddy is the proper diminutive (that roughly means shortening) of Patrick (Patty is only for Patricia). in the late 19th into the early 20th century, Irish people were so disliked they were often called "White Negros", even though they held a majority in civil service jobs. So One Paddy was ridding in the van, tossing other paddy's in it.Or, in other words, Irish people were so despised that they were compared to black people. Because, you know, being black was even worse. Today, in 2014, black people are being murdered in cold blood by white cops whose actions are endorsed by society, and you are telling them: "You think you have it bad? A hundred years ago, my ancestors faced almost as much discrimination as you do today. So stop complaining that you're the only oppressed people here." They seem to think only Black people have ever been disliked. No, but white people have never faced any systemic racial prejudice at any point in history ever. Irish people may have been oppressed by white people, but Irish people weren't white until after that oppression ended, so that doesn't count. |
