Other than this being a total waste because you are responding to streetcarman, you make some valid points.There are numerous genetic conditions which should not exist, and yet they do, and they are genetic conditions without question. Sufferers of Tay-Sachs disease do not live long enough to pass on their genes, and yet this is a genetic condition. Because genetic traits are not that simple. There is homosexuality among other animals, and they do not engage in as many choices as we do. And what do you mean by "protected?" I don't think people are actually opposed to a scientifically-derived "cure" for homosexuality. It's just that purported "cures" for it are bullshit and harm people. As for autism, while some people might have mild forms that don't merit treatment, there are some for whom autism is extremely debilitating. I'm not aware of any cases of homosexuality that can be called debilitating. So while society might lose something if the high functioning autistic people are "cured," because they often have a unique perspective that may be valuable, nobody is harmed by curing the people who are incapable of taking care of themselves and are non-verbal. In the event they discover an actual "cure" for homosexuality, and people want to take it, then fine. But in that event, they would also "cure" heterosexuality and people could then actually choose to be gay. Hopefully by then the religious wrong will stop giving a shit. |
