Romney being a bishop definitely matters. I'd be reluctant to vote for an Episcopalian bishop too.

Bishops are upper management of their church, and they hold their appointment for life. It's like a Senior VP of Exxon running for President and saying "I'm on leave of absence from Exxon, but after I'm done being President I'll go back to my old job there."

It's not an absolute, but it's something to genuinely consider about a candidate.
