When I was in the Army (and the nearly half-century since), I have talked with hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people from many places and many (mostly, but not entirely, Abrahamic faiths) about religion, philosophy, and many other things.

I never met a single person who said they believed in a literal creation story. Or claimed any of the ridiculous explanations for dinosaur bones. I'm sure there are such people, but I also believe that Atheists like to make the claim that "most faith-based believers seem to deny that in favor of a literal belief in Genesis" as a method to reject religion out of hand and view themselves as superior.
