This bus isn't even all that new, this particular bus has been around since May of this year. It ran at the Wachovia Championship in Charlotte, NC, which explains the paint scheme. It also has a sibling, so who knows if the MTA has the second unit or just this one. And if not, where is the second unit now?!Regards, Trevor Logan |

It looks sort of like an RTS with a new spin in the front windsheild. I see a lot of new designs are doing "asymmetrical" curved line stuff like that (like the rear of the new Orions testing in Queens). I guess it's for variety?I also like that it uses the combusion engine only for charging; otherwise, it runs only on the electric! Is this less than 40 ft? It's hard to tell. And I wonder which depot it will be at. (And isn't it interesting to see other colors and patterns on an MTA NTCY bus?) |

Actually, I retract part of my statement -- the color scheme is good. Too bad it's copyrighted by Wachovia, for it would be nice to see it on existing buses. And it's not quite as bad as the Orion VII, although the front comes very close. |

That thing looks like it should be used only on those route 4 runs from the GWB terminal, to NJ, or those NY to Patterson runs, from the terminal. That is one of the most ugliest concept on wheels I have ever seen. That is not a bus, but an overgrown cheap looking and made RV. Heck I have seen RV's that look more like a bus than that hideous monstrosity on wheels. The New Flyer Invero's ass, looks better than the front of that ugly duckling. I hope the MTA says no to the ugly duck. It does look like it could float though. If they really want Hybrid buses faster, they need to make up with New Flyer. Have Orion and New Flyer build the Hybrids. Just don't mix the buses at depots. Orion VII at some, New Flyers at others. Maybe even have the Flyer in OA territory (Manhattan/Bronx), and the Orion VII in Queens/STI/Brooklyn. |

The average hybrid city bus gets about 4.5 to 5 mpg. The most efficient hybrids I am aware of are the D4000 hybrids at NJ Transit, which I have been told approach 10 mpg. (The hybrid RTSs there get about 5 to 5.5 mpg.) |

The Orion VII looks like gold compared to this contraption and I hate the Orion VIIs as well. I wish they made buses the way they used to. This sucks. I'm getting bored with NYC and its buses. That sounds more like a run than a route if you ask me, going to Orange. If it was a 704xx unit, Orange County has been buying these buses for ShortLine...but I'm surprised that they don't have OFFICIAL plates since they are government-owned (the 704xx units). 70271-5 at ShortLine do have OFFICIAL plates. |
