I meant calling the cops without them hearing about my conversation with the cops so I won't get beat up. Also, why does the driver have to point them out, more likely than not, the passengers will assist in arresting the criminals.

If jail hadn't taught the criminals a lesson and they attack the driver again then I'm pretty sure justice will be served and they'll go to jail again. Anyways, I doubt most drivers are not aware of these dangers and that they put these factors into deciding whether they want to be a driver or not.

What debate? I'm just doing like everyone else is doing--stating what they've either heard or seen.

In the past here on BusChat, people always talk about drivers urinating in the rear stairwell on their layovers, or stealing OEM bulkhead numbers (West Farms seems to be the only depot taking preventative measures by putting the numbers on screwed-in plates in the bulkhead rather that decals), or voluntarily leaving the drivers seat a mess for the next driver.

Well, I'm doing the same. I'm stating that it appears that it's no secret that drivers vandalize buses at LIB (and as I've stated they've taken steps to prevent it), and rumor has it that Castleton and Yukon operators do the same.

I stated before, in my post, which number Bill has provided:
"I know the stop request tape have been fixed and covered with a box around the cords, but in two separate buses I've been on, the operator has the bells locked out, and one actually admitted to keeping them off (after I asked him to turn them on) because "they slow [him] down."

I never said anything about drivers cutting the stop request cords, though come to think of it, there might be a connection between drivers like the aforementioned person (voluntarily disabling the system via the switch) and the cords being cut.

What I did say about driver vandalism is that drivers in Staten Island are known to cut the rear door cords since the 2 seconds it takes for the doors to close after air assist mode is too long and they'd rather have the doors close instantly. Drivers at LIB give that same reason why they do it (I have a family member who works at LIB and hears that statement from drivers who have cut cords), and it probably goes the same for drivers in Staten Island.

I'm not desiring to go into any debates about driver vandalism, I'm just stating what I've heard and patterns I've observed. I will however, reiterate that I have already given a quote from a driver who turns off the stop request system at his own will, and that drivers are prone to do anything--though I wish they'd think about the consequences it has on the riders they carry.

Does that mean they're gonna build rail there so that the property values can go up?

However, as cited prior, the law will expire at year's end at the latest...and here is the rub...at the time of the law, the buses were privately operated. But today, the buses are owned by the STATE, and the NYCTA could argue that state-owned routes are outside the scope of city law.

You must live in a Walt Disney fantasy world if you believe that! When the kids of Christ the King HS at Met. Ave. on the M line get out it is a crazy place of kids yelling, screaming and holding doors for their friends who haven't entered the system yet. The parents send them to the Catholic Schools to keep them out of the rowdy public schools. Or so they think. The only difference between a Catholic School kid and a public school kid is the Catholic School kid wears a uniform.

I've been on many a Pelham Bay-bound QBx1 that goes out of service at Monsignor Scanlon. They think that having one or two of them entering through the front distracts the driver enough to have a horde of them entering (more like pushing and shoving) through the rear door.

One time, I remember the driver made anyone with the Scanlon uniform get off the bus, regardless if they paid or not, and had them wait for the next one.

He questioned me too, cause I had a schoolbag on, and looked young, and seemed to have forgotten that I was the first passenger who entered the bus at Flushing...but I flashed my Queens College ID and he left me alone.
