News on the Bronx to LaGuardia Airport route.

Posted by Chicago44 on Sun Sep 8 16:35:19 2019

Has anyone heard if the long proposed Bronx (likely along Webster Av) to LaGuardia Airport bus will finally be added since I was very disappointed that it wasn't included in the Draft Bronx Bus Redesign Study.

Put a question mark at the end of your subject line if you're asking a question. People seeing your post think you're giving information, not asking for it. This is not the first time this has been suggested to you.

The proposal seems to have been quietly dropped a few years ago. I don't think there's been any mention of it from the MTA in about the last three years, which presumably means they decided against implementing it. Probably not enough demand, and they figured people who did want it could ride the subway or the Bx15 to 125th St. and get the M60. But it would be nice if there were some official statement on the matter.

Joe's theory: Dad brought me on the Bronx-to-Astoria bus sometime when the Bronx entrance to the Triboro was a mere ramp, maybe off East 133rd Street, and the bus loaded on the curb of the ramp. That route was always low-patronage, and I don't think even a combination with a Webster SBS will draw the customers away from the 2,4,5,6 to 125th St and M60.

In theory, a Bronx-to-Astoria route looked smart, but something never quite drew the patronage. It is a bit like running a bus from Tottenville to South Amboy, filling in a bad gap in mass transit. The ferry had foot passengers, but a bus across Outerbridge Crossing may as well be a small taxi.

And notably there is no mention of it in the recent Bronx redesign proposals.

I don't think they were really serious on that to begin with.

Brighton line to LIRR at Atlantic Ave to Jamaica to Airtrain is bit of pain and expensive one at that.

What a horrible route to go. 15 minutes by car and at least an hour and a half by bus and train.

Yep, although the Belt is easily fucked up at any hour of the day or night.

There was something I read upon recently that talked about a few new limited routes being implemented from JFK airport to a few major corridors in Brooklyn. Don't remember if one of them went near Sheepshead Bay.

LIRR from Atlantic Terminal to Woodhaven Jct and down the RBB to Howard Beach would be very easy.
