Joe's theory: Dad brought me on the Bronx-to-Astoria bus sometime when the Bronx entrance to the Triboro was a mere ramp, maybe off East 133rd Street, and the bus loaded on the curb of the ramp. That route was always low-patronage, and I don't think even a combination with a Webster SBS will draw the customers away from the 2,4,5,6 to 125th St and M60.-- In theory, a Bronx-to-Astoria route looked smart, but something never quite drew the patronage. It is a bit like running a bus from Tottenville to South Amboy, filling in a bad gap in mass transit. The ferry had foot passengers, but a bus across Outerbridge Crossing may as well be a small taxi. |
