The latest form of the N22X

Posted by New Flyer #857 on Sat Feb 16 08:17:30 2019

Only after seeing the new signage and the n22X in places I usually didn't see it did I look up the changes NICE made to it.

I'm not sure what to make of it. Running every other bus as an express wouldn't have occurred to me, as I see a lot of people waiting at non-express bus stops along Hillside, and they wouldn't be helped by the expresses.

The change at Roosevelt Field for service to/from Hicksville is a service decrease as far as passengers are concerned. Late buses mean missed connections, just like at Great Neck with the N20's.

Roosevelt Field terminals are good for NICE as they can more economically make reliefs and get buses on and off the road easier for them. A d/h from Hicksville to the depot at the beginning and end of service day is wasteful to the company.

Curious why the map doesn't mention the Q36 amongst all the other bus connection points ... either at the 165th St. terminal or at Little Neck Parkway.

I don't see the change at Roosevelt Field in the schedule that was posted. Is that a future change?

Oh, I see now. It's the N24 with the split.

Although with no n22 locals going to Hicksville during the rush, it could very well mean a transfer at Roosevelt Field or elsewhere for many who get on at local stops. And those express stops aren't exactly close together that you can easily walk to the nearest one, at least not as easily as in NYC for a limited-stop bus.

N22X buses should be short-turning at Roosevelt Field, not Mineola, due to heavy passenger traffic between those 2 destinations. N24 buses are few & far between.

The change to skip the detour via Mineola Terminal is very smart. It's now just a 2 minute walk to the stop at 2nd St in Mineola. Often the N22X had to wait for 5 or 6 traffic light cycles to exit the terminal during afternoon rush-hour (since there are a non-stop amount of cars exiting from the multi-level parking garage there and a very short traffic light.)

Also, Willis / Hillside is a suitable location for an express stop, and now it is one.

nice is just...not. rotten service provider. and nassau county sucks too. of all the cuts, loss of the babylon terminal is a really bad idea, especially n72. which was the best regional surface transit connection on long island.

also, blows that n78/79 doesn't roll to mineola anymore. and the loss of n73/74, n51...terrible. sad to think that sct, in a lower population density county actually has better geographic coverage
