XN60 artics for NICE?

Should NICE get XN60s as well? Some of the routes like the N4, N4X, N6, N6X, and N22A could use them.

I would think RVC depot should be assigned these buses.

Once in a while this board receives highly speculative topics, a bit like fantasy sports. The odds are pretty strong against Mangano and TransDev agreeing on the purchase of non-standardized equipment. About twenty years ago, MSBA or LI Bus purchased large vans for lightly-served routes. These were kept only a few years. As traction companies learned with open-bench summer cars, it is better to have a single type of vehicle, so that it can cover all types of runs.
---
I must also recall two unfortunate side effects of purchasing artics, even though I like them. On Manhattan crosstown routes, I think their introduction has been used to reduce staffing by increasing the headway. Maybe four years ago, I attended a NYCTRC meeting where an outspoken committee member from the Upper East Side objected to those lengthened headways. Also, ten years ago I chose to ride an artic on the Grand Concourse limited north about 4 p.m., when schools let out. It was a unpleasant, slow crawl, with single-front-door loading and single rear-door unloading. I have since traveled on a three-door artic on the Bx9, somewhat faster, but we did not have school kids boarding.

Driving them into 165th and HTC would be a issue.

The N4 is the only route that doesn't go to either terminal... I don't think NICE would want to have a oddball fleet just for one route.

Orange County Transportation Authority had New Flyer D60LF (Units 7201-7210, 7301-7320, 7401-7420) and XN60 buses (Units 7601-7620) that have 2 doors, one on the front and in the rear. Long Beach Transit's New Flyer XN60 (Units 1501-1513) and D60LF buses (Units 2301-2313) have 3 doors, one in the front, rear, and in between the second and third windows as well.

NICE will get whatever buses the County feels like paying for.

They had a very strange sort of bus that ran on a short-lived route from Freeport or RVC to JFK airport, called N91 or something.

What were they ?

They were Thomas, a version of a school bus. The route from Rockville Centre was via Merrick Road and Hook Creek Blvd., and I rode it maybe twice. Bounced much on Hook Creek Blvd. I'm not a frequent flyer, but one memorable time about 1997, I returned from a two-day visit to Los Angeles with minimal baggage. Got off American Airlines red-eye at dawn, boarded the bus to Rockville Centre (senior fare), then LIRR single-zone senior fare and home! Better than $80 or $100 cab fare. Even less expensive than Air Train, which put the LI Bus route out of service. Yes, it was N91.

NICE had Thomas school buses according to this link: http://www.cptdb.ca/wiki/index.php?title=Metropolitan_Transportation_Authority_retired_bus_fleet#Retired_Roster_-_MSBA

Units 707 and 708 were made in 1995, 709, 710, and 713 made in 1996. They also had 1995 Orion II CNG buses composed of units 701, 711, 704-706, and did they use them on route N91?

MTA Long Island bus had these, not NICE. Also, yeah, those CNG Orion 2s were on the N91 too.
