I used to ride it in the 90's once a year.It is really Suburban Transit, I believe their Route 60. It runs about 2 frequencies to New Brunswick. Don't know if it is gone. The RVL station never had any reference to it. |

You'll have to look through the 800 service timetables. The Middlesex lines have all been redone years ago. The line you're asking about used to run all day, then cut back to a couple of trips each way, that's when Suburban Transit had it. It's probably now part of something else. |

The problem is that when I type in Dunellen as an origin point, it only gives Atlantic City as a destination. Unless it happens to pass through New Brunswick, but is pick-up/drop-off only en route to Atlantic City. It's a shame if it was discontinued, since there's very few routes that connect the areas by the RVL to the areas by the NEC (at least in that portion of NJ). |

The 60 was actually a PS/TNJ route that was dropped in the NJT Middlesex County reorganization. Once Suburban picked it up, I believe it was specifically operated by Suburban's HAML division. |

Interesting... is that the same 135 that morphed into the 115? The one that ran from New Brunswick thru Highland Park, Edison, Colonia, et al through Elizabeth? Are you able to scan the full timetable? Thanks! |

The 135 as I remember it in the 1990's was a duplicate of the 60 (Somerville terminus, no Raritan), but once in New Brunswick, proceeded on the TPK to PABT like a regular Princeton bus. What is the HAML division ? In the 1960's, I remember seeing orange Suburban Transit Old Look Hydromatics. What route were they on ? |

I used it as a shortcut from Somerville to the NEC and points south, via Edison. Now you are left with a Academy-contracted route between Plainfeild and Metuchen. I do not care to wait around in Plainfield. |

There were "two": 135s... the Manville-New Brunswick-New York express from the schedule you saw, and the New Brunswick-Rahway-New York that became the 115. I'll scan the whole 135/60 for you tomorrow. |

Funnily enough, if you were making that same trip today, it would be easier, because Somerset County now operates two rush hour routes (the DASH 851/852) that run from Bridgewater Commons, through Somerville, and end in New Brunswick. There's also the CAT 1R, which leaves you at Highland & Hamilton, about a 20 minute walk from the New Brunswick train station. (That bus runs middays).I guess on a side note, I think there should be an 854 route, which would combine the lower part of the 853 with the upper part of the 851/852, providing an all-day connection between the two rail lines. |

I knew at one time... it was H-something Area Motor Lines if memory serves, but don't hold me 100% to that. Initializing company names became common when the company wanted to expand or move and the company name was tied to a specific area... similar to PABCO Transit originally being Passaic-Athenia Bus Company. |

135/60 schedule scan - Re: Dunellen Local Bus (Coach USA) |

The New Brunswick garage was closed when the NJT reorganized the Middlesex County routes in the early 80s. |

Thank you for posting this. I've never seen a TNJ schedule before, so I can really appreciate the simplicity of the format and accountability (listing the supervisor and garage on the timetable). It's such a shame that this is no longer common practice (in both respects). |

Ah, I was confusing those with the SCOOT R1/R2 (the ones that go through Hillsborough & Manville). Those are the ones that go to Bridgewater Commons. The DASH buses only go to Bridgewater Promenade. Sorry about that. |

Looks like it was pretty much a peak hour operation. I have a bunch of TNJ schedules that I've collected and they all pretty much look like this. Some of them have the little line map like today's NJT timetables but others didn't. |

When Somerset County started running Easton Av DASH buses in the 1990's, Suburban was still running to Somerville, and made quite a fuss.So Somerset had to make sure no bus ran through between New Brunswick and Bound Brook, but the various frequencies merely overlapped. Of course Suburban made no attempt to run through corporate office parks on Davidson Ave where transit-dependent people had to go, and made it very difficult to obtain a schedule, even to County officials, so they were full of shit. I suspect that same arrogance today is what caused them to first cut to Dunellen "60" bus back from 5 frequencies per rush period to 2, then to 0. I do not think Suburban should have been granted Atlantic City franchises from these areas given the way they treated the locals, pun intended. |

Wow, that was pretty rotten of them to intentionally force Somerset to screw up its local routes like that.Out of curiosity, who was subsidizing the Dunellen bus? Getting a schedule was like getting the combination to Fort Knox, no mention of it in the NJT timetables as a connection, even though they could have benefited with feeder passengers.I know a chief transportation planner in Somerset County, and whenever I mentioned Suburban Transit, he would turn red and start huffing and puffing. He was also trying to pull together infor for a booklet of transit infor in the county with everything, even Martz (now gone) and Susquehanna Trailways buses stopping in Somerville. |

I also find it interesting that Transit has reverted back to the AM light face/PM bold face format after many years. It does make the schedule easier to read than when they listed am/pm on timetables from the 80's and 90's. |
