I remember when the Bx-13 was the Castle Hill Avenue bus and ranbetween Castle Hill Park and Pelham Parkway / White Plains Road. This move should have happened sooner - it's only another 5-7 minutes away, but I'd like to see the Bx13 eventually extended to Lincoln Hospital and The Hub on weekdays from 6 AM to 8 PM (middays on alternating trips), also serving the Bronx main post office and Hostos Community College. The last stop eastbound would be East 149 Street and 3 Avenue both ways...relay would be: left at Bergen Avenue, Westchester Avenue, Brook Avenue (layover) and back on East 149 Street. |

Even though the Bx Terminal Market the actual market isn't there anymore, its interesting how they market Gateway Plaxa as Bronx Terminal Market on the signs there...And even though it terminates at 149th Street, you can argue that it is in fact the southernmost border of the property which would make it quite accurate. I think it's most important to easily identify the intersection of where the bus will terminate. Having a landmark/place of interest included is helpful, but I'm not sure it's needed in this case.It reminds me of my childhood days when the sign reading for the S/B Bx37 (before it became Bx13) was "Bx37 Yankee Stadium" in somewhat condensed lettering while most read "Bx37 Yankee Stad". My issue with this is that it assumes the passenger know where Yankee Stadium is located. |

I feel that's a different scenario, since Target isn't the main reason that Bx9 buses short turn there, whereas the Bx13's terminus is pretty much at the doorstep of the mall, much like the Bx12's Terminus is at (inside) Bay Plaza or the Q8's terminus is at the Gateway Plaza. One could argue that the S79's terminus is at the back of the SI Mall, Marsh Avenue, and not the mall itself. |

I see where you're coming from, but if that's the case, then why would it be okay for Bx29 buses to display BX29 CITY ISLAND (not noting where on City Island it terminates) or for M15 buses to display M15 SOUTH FERRY (although the bus terminates near the Whitehall Street Ferry Terminal, no place around there is actually called SOUTH FERRY)? Why would those examples be exceptions?If I see a sign that lists the intersection as a terminus like the Bx13 does, I would wonder "Gee, what's so important about that intersection that all of the buses have to terminate THERE?" Maybe if it cycled to Bx13 BX TERM MARKET/Bx13 RIVER AVE-149 ST, it wouldn't be so bad, much like the old B61 S/B reading: B61 IKEA TERMINAL/B61 BEARD-OTSEGO STS. It gives the intersection and the landmark. The landmark would probably lead to the intersection where the bus terminates, rather than potential passengers having to know beforehand. -Dr. C --Dr. C |
