KCM Orion contract

I was wondering, does KCM still have its contract with Orion in place?

With the recent reassignment of the NYC MTA order to New Flyer, perhaps Orion may reassign KCM's contract to either New Flyer or Gillig if the contract is still in place.

KCM has no history of ordering NABI, so I find them to be unlikely if Orion were to reassign the contract. KCM has ordered both New Flyer and Gillig in the past, so I personally think they would be the most likely candidates if Orion were to reassign the KCM contract.

Dallas' DART also had no NABI history when the plug was pulled on the RTS; guess what happened. Soooooo, it COULD happen.

But I don't think Orion would reassign a contract to a manufacturer that KCM has no history with. Orion should know better. After all, the reason why Orion chose to transfer the NYC MTA contract to New Flyer is because MTA has a history of ordering New Flyer buses. Had that not been a factor, Orion could have easily transferred the MTA contract to either Gillig or NABI, neither which MTA has any ordering history with. Orion is not stupid.

I'm sure if NABI paid Orion enough they would "transfer" the contract to them... Any new coaches though would go through a full bid process, so who knows who would be chosen. Orion was a new product for KCM, who had prior working experence with Gillig and New Flyer, so theres nothing to say that NABI couldent get a contract with them provided they meet the qualifications and speicifications. Although i think Orion intends to fill the seattle order fully.

Are you aware Orion is going out of business?

I don't think Orion could have just assigned the contract to anyone they chose without the approval of the MTA. A contract is a contract - the MTA had a signed agreement to purchase 74 buses from Orion and I'm pretty certain they would have had the right to exit the contract had Orion tried to assign it to a builder who has not been approved through the authority's bus qualification program.

Nope, the first buses for this order have already been built. This order for KCM is staying with Orion. However, 570 & 571 are built at Orion, but I doubt that they will come to MTA.

Supposedly four pilot buses were built for the MTA and will now be available for sale to another customer.
