If MTA follows its standard policy then the 4900-5249 batch (1999) should be all retired by 2014 at the latest...however, with the need to mass retire the 5200-5400 series D60HFs, CNG and Diesel Orions, and the rest of the 8750-9699 batch, they may make it to 2016 or 2017. |

MTS still has to get the factory up and running (according to the financial review agency Dun & Bradstreet, Millennium still only has 8 employees), then build a few demos and presumably send a bus to the Altoona testing center. If past experience is any guide, the MTA will likely hold off on committing to buy even an evaluation fleet until the Altoona shaker test results are satisfactory. |

UP,GA,FLA,ENY,FP,QV,JA,126th and MJQ still have RTS buses(NOVABUS models) that recently got upgrades so those models aren't going anywhere. I'm guessing the ones assigned to LGA,Eastchester and JFK will get scrapped/retired first but it's a question as what MTA BUS gets to replace them.B1-#5076-NOVABUS S53-#7074-Orion 3G |

Honestly we should have received a demo bus already. It does not take that long to build a demo bus. Until I see an ACTUAL demo then I have to say that this whole MTS RTS bus is a giant fluke. |

These buses will be around until 2018.I dont know where these rumors of buses being retired at 12 years keeps coming from because its not true. All of the Orion VII OG CNG's are being overhauled and repowered, and will have their life extended well beyond 12 years also. As far as MTS goes, most of their new employees will likely come from Daimler, and they are already in talks about it. Several Orion employees have already contacted MTS about new positions which will become available late this summer, early fall. @ LRG - I don't provide fluke information, and I never have. I have executive contacts at every major manufacturer except Gillig. (Totally not interested in their trash) the MTA demo is already on the assebly line just so you know. Every single MTA bus project is delayed right now. No exception for the RTS. Also, just so you know, MTA already stated they want the bus, and provided the delivery information to MTS already. They already stated exactly how they want the buses built, they sent MTS the final specs to MTS already as well. So, let's just wait and see. MTA already spoke, now it's up to MTS to get it done. |

I dont know where these rumors of buses being retired at 12 years keeps coming from because its not true.Actually, some of the MTA board documents and capital program documents have made reference to the authority wanting to get the bus replacement cycles to match the 12-year life expectancy, but they do not state this will definitely happen. |

That is true, but I don't know what happened as it has yet to be implemented. And with the CNG repowering now confirmed, it seems that the D60HF's are the only buses being retired anywhere near the 12 year mark. |

Many of the older driver love them, but they are high floors and get beat to hell in KB. Some of those Nova's are horrible when it comes to kneeling. If the bus is crush loaded, they have a problem raising back up. You can run the things for 20 plus years, but after you pass the 15-16 year mark, you absolutely have to keep up maintenence on all the suspension components. |

Those D60HFs, however, were maintenance headaches; I can't blame the MTA there. The older C40LFs are also being retired; however, at least two have shown up in private ownership, including one in Brownsville. |

What's the big hurry to retire the buses from the 5250-5509 batch. Those buses are very strong. As an operator I'd rather drive those than an LFSA anyday based on the Big Bus Driver's reviews and my personal operational of an 8000 |

The simple answer is that it's because the Feds have provided capital funding for replacement buses once a fleet reaches 12 years of age. As we've seen in many cities, most heavy-duty bus models can be made to last 15 to 18 years with periodic overhauls and proper maintenance. |
