If something happened to make the bus late enough that I was going to miss my train, I wouldn't be nearly as upset about it as if the driver had done something intentional. Yeah, either way I would've missed work, but at least there's a legitimate reason one way. |

You knowing that he had to make a personal phone call (or whatever it may have been) wasn't going to get you there any quicker. |

NIMBYkiller, Have you ever driven a Bus or a Train for any any amount of time without a brake. I have, it's not fun. I know I need more then 5mins to rest.Try it one day and you will see what I mean. OK. BTW I take NTJ buses t work and I leave 1 hours early, just incase something unforseen down the raod messes up. I comes in handy, you sould try 1 bus early, see how that works out, before you start complaining about running late for work, thats your problem if you cut it close like that every day, not the drive's. |

Sorry, I didn't mean to say that I have that type of attitude towards all of you guys, as I've actually encountered a lot of drivers who are incredibly friendly and even have gone out of my way to commend them when they go above and beyond. Plus, posting here, I get a somewhat general idea of the trials and tribulations that a lot of operators face each day, especially with crime against drivers going up.HOWEVER There are so many articles, posts, and such out there where people say "such and such systems operators are incredibly rude, etc" because passengers have experienced "unwarranted attitudes" (according to the passengers' perception, whether right or wrong) from one or more operator which brings the opinion of the entire system down, and there's no amount of promotion from the agency can change that attitude. I was, however, quite annoyed by reading posts in here practically cheering on the driver and attacking NIMBYkiller. Everyone is human, everyone has his/her bad day, and not everyone will interact well with each other on the best of days. However, EVERYONE should know that if a customer comes to you and is angry, no good will EVER come from you telling the person to "Shut up". Again, I am sorry if I put out the impression that I believe that ALL drivers are like this, as this is definitely not true, but sadly bad eggs like this NICE driver shouldn't be encouraged as it instantly puts a bad image on everyone that works for NICE on all levels. |

I know there is no coordination between NICE or Suffolk Transit and the LIRR. I would be nice if there were but I know it's not going to happen. And as long as that's the case, few besides the truly transit-dependent will use the service. The lack of coordination is a bigger affront to customers than any "shut up" from an operator. |

I highly agree with this post. I've been dealing with something similar with my local transit system in my area, where hourly buses would miss connections by literally 2 or 3 minutes or less...and they are scheduled to do so. |

A passenger running late is hardly a bus operators problem. But when the bus operator intentionally delays a schedule, that is extremely rude, unprofessional, and disrespectfulAnd even if the offending customer insulted the operator's mother, it's not like he's the only one riding or waiting for the bus. |

When I drove a bus no matter how how late I was at the end of the line I always stretched my legs, went to the bathroom or smoked a cigarette. As a road dispatcher I never rushed operators at the end of the line either. I would tell the customers who would be late or in a rush that bus operators are not robots but are human beings entitled to a break, especially after driving from the South Ferry for almost 3 hours. My suggestion to them would be leave a little earlier from the house. Taking into the consideration that the operators are probably not to happy with the change of management and morale is poor the operator probably was not in a great mood. His response was bad as well and you should probably have just got his bus and run number and put a complaint in, never ask for a badge number. |

Many of the operators I know are miserable with NICE and pray the MTA comes back. Morale is at an all time low. Take into consideration a story an n6 driver told me, he had to drive the n6x and had to go past hundreds of people waiting for the bus in Elmont and Franklin Square. Whenever he stopped at a light passengers would bang on the door to be let on and start yelling, but he couldn't let them on because he'd get in trouble since the n6x isn't supposed to stop at those stops. The drivers are often the first person the rider sees and they will take out the poor service problems on the driver. I just wish these people would organize and show their anger against Nassau County and Veolia management! I know with the way things are now and I have an important connection I allow no less than 30 minutes, 15 is way too risky. |

I don't think anyone like having to work for a new company and having to learn how they do things, especially if they have worked a long time for their old employer, unless in the rare instance when the employee leaves on their own because they don't want to work for that employee. You can't blame all poor service on Nassau and Veolia, unless the poor service you mean is from the schedulers, I mean if Morale is low and it has been shown through out history that when Morale is low that employees don't preform their jobs to the best that they can. (I'm not trying to piss anyone off) Though its obvious that, assuming that there weren't alot of break downs, that the riders that were banging on the n6x didn't yet learn of the new route and just assumed that it would stop at their stops. (which if you think about they should have learned that by now, I mean the new route has been in effect for nearly a month now) |

Privatization almost always involves screwing the workers. That is how the private operator cuts costs. Buses and replacement parts cost the same. Fuel costs the same. But you can always cut the workers' wages or flog more work out of them. |

Out in Suffolk drivers normally try and contact the passengers connecting bus (if its operated by the same company) to see if they can wait for them if a passenger tells the driver they need to get another bus.If the passenger is transfering to a bus that is operated by a diffrent company, the driver lets their dispatch know and they will in turn call the dispatch office of the other company. Again if the passenger tells them they need to transfer. Most though if one bus is running a few minutes late. |

Well Nassau is going to learn that they got a bad deal and the MTA will get it back if the Democrats get either the legislature or the County Executive seat back.
