Three videos taken on Saturday on the #403 line. These were taken in three separate filmings between Lindenwold and Turnersville - I will post more detailed descriptions later today.

Despite reports that the powertrain is a Cummins ISL/ZF Ecomat - which I would've recognized from SEPTA's 8000-series and 5700-series overhauled New Flyers - I'm not entirely certain that's the powertrain. I'm not going to pronounce myself as an expert in identifying powertrains (half the time, I can't tell and ISL from an ISM) - I'll defer to the more experienced posters on the board.

The 2010-spec ISL received a power upgrade along with the emissions equipment... it can be rated as high as 380 hp and 1300 lb-ft of torque - on par with the Cat C13, and higher than the previous-spec ISL and ISM (max 330 hp and 1100 (L)/1150 (M) lb-ft).

Compared to the Detroit 6V92TA in the Metro B (275/800 rating), you're talking about a MUCH faster 40-foot transit/suburban.

The pre-2010-spec NABIS - 5346 and up has the Cummins ISL/ZF Ecomat Engine.

5345-below and the Caterpillar C9 Engine- Zf Ecomat

2010-post NABIs are set to have the Cummins ISL/ZF Ecolife transmission.

I also have a YouTube video of 5326 that I posted last month. The engine on 5350 - at least to me - sounded different than the Cat C-13 on 5326.

Those who have "opened the hood" state the builders plate on the engine says C13... and the post you linked doesn't cite who their "official" word came from.

Thanks for taking your time and effort to shoot the videos so we can all enjoy them. The interior PA announcements come over loud and clear in your video. Isn't it a pleasure to be able to see out of clear windows! Sorry to my Flxible fan friends, but I don't miss the Metro "B"s! Not even for a moment.......

I rode around Camden on a NABI last week with an instructor and a group of Washington Twp. operators being trained. They all had high praise for the NABI's and nobody shead a tear for the departing Metro "B"s.

NJT will soon be refining and adjusting the interior PA messages. I've made some suggestions, such as the ceiling sign showing the time and date {like SEPTA and others} and having major points {such as hospitals, schools} be announced. All connecting transit services will also be announced.

The other thing that I noticed was that there were no stop announcements for when the 403 diverted to Camden County College.

There's no need to apologize about your feelings re: the Flxible Metro Bs. It's good that they're finally being retired (and, FWIW, I'll miss the Metro D's more than the B's), but they were - for better or worse - a big part of the NJT fleet down in South Jersey. The NABIs are a huge upgrade over the Flxibles.

I guess the NABIs are holding up better in South Jersey so far.

The engine change point is 5350 to the Cummins ISL Engine, not 5346. 5201 has a CAT C-9 ACERT, 5202-5349 have CAT C-13 ACERT Engines.

The Transmission for all is currently the ZF ECOMAT-2 HP-592C Transmission. The changeover to the ZF EcoLife has NOT been confirmed.

They're keeping the C9 in 5201? I can dig that, but I'm not riding it on the any of the River Road expresses or 158.

Thats a different situation though. Most likely the case if I'm in area of those routes, I'm busfanning.

You all have inside sources which is a great reason why we should take your word for it!!

Terrapin Station was right, though, and I took a more traditional approach to get information, whether then go-through inside sources which in my experience has to been wrong in the past.

If they're still used like the current ones, they only display fare payment info from the register and Stop Request messages. They've never displayed the date/time since they were installed with the new fareboxes and registers back in the 90s.

ISL's are pretty powerfull but not as powerful as a C13 or a ISM. It would make it up the hill not too bad!
Then again it depends on how the engine is set up also! I heard about KC Metro New Flyers with ISL's eating up hills alive!

A) He is referring to 5201 with the CAT C-9 engine which I experienced first hand die going up the hill on the 158 line.

B) When did KC Metro get NFIs. I was there very recently and it was 100% Gilligs, No Waiting.

The four garages that have Metro D Suburbans are Big Tree, Greenville, Hilton, and Market Street. I'd narrow it down to those four garages to start; after that, I'll defer to our NJT insiders...

If he's referring to Seattle, KC Metro's 3600s (D40LFs), 6800s (DE40LFs), and 6000s (DE60LFAs) are ISL-powered IINM. All the other low floors, namely the 2006 hybrids (2600-2812) and the D60LFs (2800s) are CAT-powered.

Yea that is the 1! I look @ Seattle as KC Metro in general. I read something on a message board about the D40LF's! I forgot what message board was it!

I guessing it may have to do with how the engine setup is for them to get up a hill!

I got mixed up, sorry about that! Thought I read 5201 has a ISL but I read wrong!
Is that why 5202-5349 got the C13 in the 1st place?

Now, the ceiling signs on the NJT NABI buses are displaying the street names of the stops, as they approach them. This is in conjunction with the interior PA announcements of the stops. They will soon display all connecting bus/rail routes. This is common practice on SEPTA buses and trackless trolleys in Philly. SEPTA also displays the time and date every so often on the ceiling signs. It's scrolled across the electronic signs. I find that to be very helpful and want to see it on the new NJT NABI buses. Older NJT buses with ceiling signs only display fare paid or stop requests. I doubt the ceiling signs on the older buses will be retrofitted or updated.

I also want major points of interest {schools, hospitals, etc.} to be announced and displayed on the new NABI bus ceiling signs. This too is common practice on SEPTA, among other transit systems.

That's correct - NJT knows the suburbans need to be able to get on a highway and run, as well as deal with the Palisades along Hudson and Bergen Counties' river shore.

Unless NJT decides to install the Clever Devices system on the older buses (which is highly doubtful since the Flxibles and Novas are about to be retired over the next 2-3 years), IAWTP with respect to the ceiling signs.

I would be curious to see if the announcement system will be part of the private carriers when they get their NABIs.

I was on one bus on Go28 that did not show "Stop Requested" when I pushed the bell, which was disconcerting. The other direction, though, it did work properly. Go28 announces local attractions too (NJIT, etc.)
