I guess this means new buses for Jackie Gleason! The New Flyer's will be reaching their time limit in a few years. I'd be surprised if the don't buy the Orion VII CNG to save money on spare parts/ supplies.

It depends on the bids submitted. The MTA could end up getting C40LFRs or 40-LFW CNGs.

I doubt it..most likely the contract will go to 3 companies

Designline..

Orion..

NOVA BUS...

Personally,I'm looking for NOVA BUS to pick this one up..but in all likelyhood..Orion 7NG CNG will be rolling on our streets.

Can't go to NovaBUS, they do not have a CNG Variant of the LFS. Designline, just hang that one up. Its either Orion or New Flyer if you read the RFP, it calls for a bus already approved by the MTA. We have two CNGs on the property still being built today, and that is the Orion 07.501 and the C40LF.

That was LIB customization fit all accommodate seats so the people can suffer more of crappy service.

This contract bid will not used LIB customization seats. Its NYCT, dont worry about it unless NYCT could upgrade the seats to leather seats....

I wonder if this order will be for all three operations (NYC Bus, LI Bus, and MTA Bus); by 2011, about 575 CNG buses (220 NYCT-spec, 299 NYCDOT-spec, and 55 LIB-spec) will be 12 years old.

I would be shocked if part of the order goes to LIB.

However, CNG prices have crashed through the cellar. It would not surprise me if Grand Avenue got CNGs (they currently only have diesels, but have CNG fueling capability---although they are in line for Designline buses).

Ok (and this is just speculation based on facts)...

The 90 PRIMARY units for NYCT could take out:
34 1994-95 OBI Orion 05.501 CNGs (#317, 581-610)
57 1998-99 New Flyer C40LF CNG Low Floors (#800-856)

The 45 PRIMARY units for MTA Bus could take out:
45 1998 OBI Orion 05.501 CNGs (#708-750, Being the oldest of this set)

Going off the 12 Year Tank Rule the following MTA Bus/NYC Bus CNGs will need to be decommissioned by the end of 2010....
#317, 517-610, 708-750, 800-801, 7214-7273, 8568-8581 and 9932-9999.

For 2011, the remaining ex-NYC DOT Orion V/CNGs as well as 802-856. In 2012, the remaining C40LFs (857-989) will be up for decomission. The Option buses could easily cover this.

On the Long Island Bus side of things, the remaining 1400s up to 1507, by right, needed to be decommissioned by the end of THIS year, while 1508-1525 would need to be out by the end of next year and 1526-1632 out by the end of 2012.

We'll see what happens on the LIB Side...

My bet: MTA will order Orion VII NG CNGs. The only depots that could receive CNGs are JG WF CP SC MF and RC. I think LIB will be left out of this order...for now. This order with the option order would replace ALL of the Orion V CNGs at JG SC and CP as well as the 1st generation C40LFs. For MTAB, the majority of the order would go to CP...NYCT-JG.

It is likely JG's Orion V CNG 1994: #317; 1995 #581-610 (31 buses) going to get scrapped first. Im not sure after that....

The option order would getting rid of 1999-2000 New Flyer C40LF, 1998-1999 Orion V CNG.

If I recall, some of the 700's got some engine work done to them. Don't engine work can expand the life of a CNG bus?

IINM the tanks can only be used for 12 years. If you wanted to increase the life expentancy of the bus you would have to work on the tank. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

You are correct, the Tanks are certified for 12 years. You either replace the tanks or replace the bus.

This is the ONLY reason why 317 and 581-610 survied as long as they have because with the MTA repowered them, the tanks got replaced and recertified for another 12 years. They lasted, what, 7 or 8 out of that 12.. thats not too bad.

I forgot about the tanks! Darn it!
Then again I know the 700's did get worked on quite a bit! IDK if the tanks got replaced since they do look pretty fresh unless that is just fresh paint on the tanks!

When it comes to the pricetag, NABI is usually the cheapest...and they can usually spec buses out the way the customer wants them.

Isn't the tanks that built in 90's are certified for 15 years, not 12 years?
