I know that the Hyrbids are Gilligs, but I can't seem to get the other series of CDTA buses straight. For those of us (okay, that would probably be most of us) not as familiar, could you point out which series is which (ie. NABI, Nova, Orion, etc)?

I know the 2000s are Orion VIs, the lower 9900s and 3000s are two generations of Nova LFS, the 3100s are 30-foot Gilligs, the 4000s are 40-foot Gilligs, and the upper 9900s are NABI 35-LFWs. I don't know where the cutoff in the 9900s is...

Orion VI's: 2000's
Nova LFS: 9901-9959 (1999) and 3000's (2000)
NABI 35LFW's: 9961-9984
40' Gilligs: 4000's
30' Gilligs: 3100's

Save for the 9900's and the 3100's, it's been a part of a near-sequential series going back to CDTA's inception.

2022 has been repainted a couple months now. Is 2006 and 2011 out of service for good as in retired? Didn't know about 9911. I was told last night 4 are being for Troy Divison and only used on night runs. I didn't know about 326H never seen it before nor 325H. As for the new buses for Shuttles and STAR I have no idea. The 100 series are ford and chevy cutways and 200 are eldoardos.Trolleys are molly trolley 2001.

2006 and 2011 look like they are done. I'll get the rest of the numbers which are OOS and parked in the back. 9911 will probably be repaired.
325H and 326H are for the Northway Express. I see one on Wolf Road all the time and 326H was delivered last week to CDTA ALbany. They use to park the hybrid and some MCI's down at the Port of Albany truck stop, but, haven't seen them there lately.

The shuttles are a mix of older International with Coach & Equipment bodies, 2 newer Internationals, and quite a few GMC/Chevrolet with Eldorado and Star Trans bodies.

All the STAR (Special Transit Available by Request) is their Para-Transit Division. They operate mostly older Ford E350 Coach & Equip. bodies as well as newer Ford E350/E450 Star Trans. diesels, but the new Star buses delivered last year are Ford E350 Star Trans. Gas engines.

The trolley's are rarely if ever used and if they are, they go to Saratoga. Saratoga also will be getting a new CDTA Garage to accomodate all the Saratoga routes. Look for Upstate Transit to run it!

Yea thanks numbers will be appreciated cause CDTA told me no buses have been retired yet. The trolleys are used for I don't know now but I do know 897 is strictly Route 870 Saratoga Rural don't know about 595 and 2299 being Altamont Fair doesn't use trolleys anymore. The STAR buses are strictly 200-234. When is the Saratoga Division plan to open?

CDTA Lied, those buses have been retired since the CDTA Logo and their license plates have been removed. There's also several others, seen them personally yesterday as a good friend and I went on a hunt for buses.

I believe Saratoga will open sometime next year possibly.

I'd heard it was just some dumb ass who stood up at a meeting and said "herp-derp buses cheaper!!", was there something more to it than that?

CDTA needs to follow through with their bus lanes for BRT. Yes it would require taking a row of car dealership parking on either side of route 5, boo-hoo. Should have thought of that when they widened NY5 over the old trolley tracks.

It was a gradual deal, 20 artics over 4-5 years. Which sounds weak on the surface but makes sense in a way since the latest Gillig contract is up after this year and this order probably will be the end of the LFS's.

Since outside the NFTA nobody upstate wants to touch Nova with a 10-foot pole, CDTA is probably biding their time to add capacity since 2019 is the probable earliest they can retire the earliest Gilligs from 2007.

Just that nobody really wants to buy from them. Centro signed a deal with Gillig, RGRTA signed a deal with New Flyer, BC Transit seems to be content with buying secondhand rather than find someone to replace Orion.

From what I hear , our SEPTA bus drivers don't really like our Novas, the 60 Ft. Artics and the 40 Ft. models. I don't know specifically what the issues are, but , I know the next SEPTA bus purchase will be New Flyer.

Here is a photo of a SEPTA Nova arctic.

Maybe, but I'm no expert. Good looking bus, a design that rivals the GM fishbowl in longevity. What's good for one agency is another's poison. I always say they get what they pay for (or spec out).

The version CDTA has, has unworkable AC *and* windows which may as well not open. Unworkable meaning, even when the AC is fully functioning, the rear part of the bus is always hot because the engine compartment is one of those 1/3rd width ones in the main passenger cabin. While it's nice that they have a view out the back window, these buses should be banned from service when the temperature is > 90. People always open the windows, which open only 1.5 inches, just enough for the cool air from the front to go right out but not enough to actually create a breeze, then the AC unit breaks making a bad situation worse.

Some people will dig out the stopper for the windows, then you can get a nice breeze if you luck into one of those. Otherwise, this bus is hell in the summer.
