TransportAzumah = 6 years old today |

Posted by JAzumah on Thu Oct 9 14:55:35 2008 It's been a battle to get here, but my company has turned six years old. I just realized that as I was looking at this bid package to go in the mail (a bid that we have a very good shot of winning). Surprisingly, I'm still in one piece.Year 7 looks very bright for us, but only because we have put ourselves in a position to survive in such a poor economic environment. If you are thinking of entering the bus industry right now, DON'T. Not even the MTA guys are safe from layoffs and that is a scary thought. Guys are selling their buses and shutting down their companies left and right. Our politicians continue to lie to us about the seriousness of what is going on. Oh, and viva la 144. Anything worth doing is worth doing correctly. Remember that. As we often find out here on Buschat (and on BusTalk), everything is not always as it seems. Life is not about saving face. It is about being right, even when it is not popular. In the end, you are responsible for your actions and while it is hard to be right when everyone else is wrong, sometimes, you just have to do it. I am thankful to the many people (some nameless and faceless) who have been supportive throughout our six years. I am thankful for the advice given to me and the resources provided, especially you MTA guys that KNOW what is going on. You folks are a big part of why we are able to keep going because one cannot know everything everywhere. Please be assured that your support will be needed going forward (especially you kcram3500) and will be much appreciated. |

Congragulations.I would love to work for a private bus company as a manager. I feel it would be more rewarding than NYC transit which is so large and faceless. Right now I'm very happy as a dispatcher and will probably stay in this title for a while. The best thing, like you have, would be to own a large bus company, but figuring the cost of buses, fuel, repairs, insurance and government regulation its not easy and I know you must work very hard. Good luck! |

There are alot of hurdles like fuel costs leading the way to deal with. Keep up the good work ! Busdude2 |

To be honest, I had the trains down by six years old. I had no clue about the buses...the trains are so much easier to learn than the buses. |

You may not know me, but it must be awesome to have something you've always wanted to do AND OWN IT. I don't know if I could do the same, train-wise anyway, but congrats on 6 years! Make it 10 years, 20, 30 and more! :-P I'm a teen btw, but I respect you still! |

I want to say congrats to you and for not giving up! We all are human and make mistakes just some overcome it better then others. The 144 was not really for you however you did fine out in PA and I wish that you could have not backed out of PA as you really gave MARTZ a run for their money! I already know you are slowly expanding into being a contractor for like some companies like NJT.Anyway I wish the best from you! |

Although I agree with QM18; you fucked up on the 144 and I would suggest to avoid serving SI until your company has had more profitable ventures, and I'm curious about the subway system. How will you compete with the MTA? |

"Although I agree with QM18; you fucked up on the 144 and I would suggest to avoid serving SI until your company has had more profitable ventures"There is a lot you do not know about the 144 situation. There are certain things you do not say in public. There are two or three people that know the whole story and when things have settled, I'll be free to tell. Until then, I'll keep my mouth shut and let the perceptions ride. |

You did all right with the 144 but it was not really ment for you. The main problem was who he was trusting his equipment to did not maintain it correctly and once the S89 came to play, everybody ran off the 144 for the S89 and that hurt his business pretty badly. HE had a charter company do all of it for a little while and then some of it went in house since the charter company was giving the 144 bad service.On a side note, the S89 Limited was not the only one that did not get any public hearings. The short lived X26 did not have public hearings as well. I do think that there is a loophole in the law that requires the MTA to hold public hearings for new routes. It can be posable that the S89 was written off as an emergency route or something to that effect |

It was added capacity for the 1/2 trains."The main problem was who he was trusting his equipment to did not maintain it correctly and once the S89 came to play, everybody ran off the 144 for the S89 and that hurt his business pretty badly." And now you are reading between the lines. Especially since the MTA audited the route in April 2007 and it passed. |

Well, either way, the 144 ended up fucked pretty badly, but I still recommend not serving SI until a few years in the future and the masses of SI can see that TAZ is doing well. |
