Re: Queens Bus Redesign Draft Proposals

Is that really the way to run a line? Make people feel pressured to backtrack to a place where they can have hopes of getting a seat because if they don't they will definitively have to stand for miles on end? Pressure the company to make sure these standees exist during the non-stop segment in order to keep the line profitable? Bypass whole neighborhoods of people who don't (pre-2005) have reasonable alternatives for getting to the Rockaways within even double the time the Q53 could have brought them?

I mean, yeah, if the B41 became entirely non-stop between Kings Highway and Downtown Brooklyn, and sliced its frequency in half or so, then I can totally see people packing in, maybe backtracking to Kings Plaza, and those that get a seat saying, "What a wonderful ride!" Never mind that people in East Flatbush may also want to go to Kings Plaza or Downtown. They can take the B49 to the B9, or they can walk over to the B46. Never mind the major intersections with potential riders and subway connections all around being bypassed along the way. Never mind that maybe some people would have preferred to get off at Nostrand for the 2/5 trains. People south of Kings Highway want to get Downtown.

I just don't see what makes the Rockaway Park to Woodside route so special that it, and no other place in the city, warrants an intraborough multimile non-stop segment bypassing many willing patrons. Even the LIRR branch it replaced had intermediate stops, didn't it?
