In October of 1927, Surface Transportation was authorized to operate twelve bus lines in The Bronx that probably had assorted municipal "emergency" permissions in the previous decade, under the marking "Dept. of Plant & Structures." Route 8 was and still is the Williamsbridge Road route.
---
A 1946 Geographia Complete Street Guide has this listing:
WILLIAMSBRIDGE ROAD. Route 8 -- (2.61 miles) -- From White Plains Ave. and Burke Ave.; via White Plains Ave., Adee Ave., Williamsbridge Rd.,East Tremont Ave., Lane Ave., Benson St., to Westchester Ave.
---
In 2015, Bx8 is a mile longer on the north end (continuing to about the Williamsbridge-Wakefield border) and four miles longer on the south end, serving Throg's Neck to Locust Point.
