B74 observations

For a short route, almost all the seats were filled. I've never been on the B36 but how is that route compared to the B74? I know between Stillwell and W 37st has a lot of housing but why is such a short route needed? MTA should just split the B36 into two paths, like the M14 does, and end with the same terminal. Lazy ass people can't walk one more block?
