It actually doesn't make a profit because most people are transferring to/from the subway.

In response to DaRidgewoodBusBuff, if there are heavy crowds west of Stillwell Avenue, what good would splitting the B36 do? You'd still need to have short-turn buses (because of the heavier loads west of Stillwell), so you might as well keep them as B74s.

Plus, they help with the unreliability issues on the B36. You could have serious crowding if the B36 is delayed coming from Sheepshead Bay.
