Valley Metro questions (mainly historical) |
|
|
Posted by CentrolinerDD on Fri Aug 15 20:52:16 2008 I hope someone can answer a few of these questions that I have regarding Valley Metro and public transportation in Metropolitan Phoenix:1. Does anyone remember Teco/Tico/Teko/Tiko (sorry, but I do not know how the name is spelled)? I heard about this mascot (a sun with a sombrero) a few weeks ago and I would like to learn more. I was told that Teco (et al) was discontinued in the early 1990s (1993, I believe). 2. What are the histories of the Red Line, Route 72 and Route 81 (and any other routes that have interesting histories; including routes that no longer exist)? When were they created/set up (or discontinued)? When were they expanded and was there ever a time that these routes went somewhere they no longer go? I am aware of the recent change to Route 81's southern terminus and the small change to Route 72's nothern terminus about a year ago. Someone told me that Route 81's nothern terminus was originally Downtown Tempe. When was it expanded to the Scottsdale Airpark? What was the southern terminus during this time? 3. Was Tempe's "transit center" always along College Avenue? Were those bus stops there prior to the construction of the College Avenue Marketplace and the ASU Fulton Center? 4. What kind of buses did Valley Metro operate in the past? (Any photos?) These are just a few questions I have. I would like to know more about the local public transportation in my city (which I became interested in and began to pay attention to only recently). Thanks! |
