Then the LIRR (and Metro-North) fare system needs to be fixed so that it can become a viable alternative within NYC (excluding Far Rockaway---in Zone 4).If people could ride the LIRR for less, watch ridership within city limits skyrocket. And while at it, rebuild the Elmhurst station. Energy prices will force the issue...the MTA's fuel prices are only hedged through next year...just when the state budget is going to hit rock bottom. |
