Yeah, 3'6" gauge is the standard gauge for JR's conventional lines. Most lines in central Tokyo have a speed limit of 100kph (65mph).

Though NJT has higher speeds, i bet JR has a more reliable and frequent service. And besides, 65 MPH is blazing fast when compared to MTA's railroads and subways... :(

Are you serious? How much is this going to cost the CTA?

I haven't seen any numbers, but in my opinion it could end up saving the CTA money. Seniors might be enticed to take a free trip on CTA instead of paying for a heavily-subsidized paratransit ride.
Paratransit in the city is operated by PACE, not by the CTA.

He doesn't like the R-32 cars. He obviously doesn't have a clue about what makes for a good subway line and subway system. To even suggest that the E makes one appreciate WMATA is ridiculously retarded. For one, when I'm riding the E train at 4:00AM any day of the week, I'm VERY happy I'm not riding WMATA, since there are no trains running at that time on WMATA.

Of course, but they *can* buy cars to create 600 foot trainsets because the infrastructure will support them. Things may be crowded now, but at some point if they can get their three-way tug of war figured out they'll be okay. Chicago is stuck with 6 car, 288 foot long trains regardless of how many train cars they purchase. Thus Chicago's need to change their seating arrangement to accomodate more passengers per car is far more dire than WMATA's requirements for the same.

The one that wasn't around when NYCT's predecessors were already serving people for decades?

Irrelevant

The one that regularly doesn't run full-length trains?

The Orange line runs 8 car trains. The Red Line runs every 2-3 minutes during rush hour.

The one that doesn't have an unlimited ride fare option?

Incorrect. There is an all day pass.

The one that doesn't operate 24/7?

Because it isn't necessary. Most of the ridership is 9 to 5 workers who work in DC and live in Montgomery County or Virginia. On Fridays and Saturdays it runs until 3 AM.

WMATA has good points and bad points just like every other system

I never said the WMATA was flawless. It isn't. I'm merely saying that the Metro is better than any other system in the country and that BART is a close second.

Incorrect. He said unlimited ride pass. Not all day pass. The WMATA "all day pass" excludes the AM Peak period, IINM, as of the last time I used one. Yep, I just checked and that's still the case.

But wait, I see the "7-Day Fast Pass $39". Unlimited rides for 7-days. So this seems to be the only real unlimited ride pass. Ok, so they have one (though there should be more), and you showed trainsarefun to be wrong on one point.

I never said the WMATA was flawless.

You basically have, IMO.

It's very hard to do a straight comparison. The way the railroads are run there are quite different. While most subway lines hardly do 50mph, the overground lines do 65mph between local stations 2-3 minutes apart. And once you get ten to fifteen minutes out of central Tokyo, many express trains do 75 to 82 mph which is on par with LIRR and MNR.

Also, speeds in and out the terminals (if it does terminate in central Tokyo) are generally faster.

May not be blazing fast but I thought I'd like to fill in more info than "False".

As I already alluded to, that's not a concern at all. There are plenty of other cars on the train with the original number of seats. And I assume those cars have designated seating areas for seniors/pregnant women/people with disabilities. So they are all pretty much guaranteed seats.
