Of course, but they *can* buy cars to create 600 foot trainsets because the infrastructure will support them. Things may be crowded now, but at some point if they can get their three-way tug of war figured out they'll be okay. Chicago is stuck with 6 car, 288 foot long trains regardless of how many train cars they purchase. Thus Chicago's need to change their seating arrangement to accomodate more passengers per car is far more dire than WMATA's requirements for the same. |

Because it isn't necessary. Most of the ridership is 9 to 5 workers who work in DC and live in Montgomery County or Virginia. On Fridays and Saturdays it runs until 3 AM. WMATA has good points and bad points just like every other system I never said the WMATA was flawless. It isn't. I'm merely saying that the Metro is better than any other system in the country and that BART is a close second. |

The way the railroads are run there are quite different. While most subway lines hardly do 50mph, the overground lines do 65mph between local stations 2-3 minutes apart. And once you get ten to fifteen minutes out of central Tokyo, many express trains do 75 to 82 mph which is on par with LIRR and MNR.Also, speeds in and out the terminals (if it does terminate in central Tokyo) are generally faster. May not be blazing fast but I thought I'd like to fill in more info than "False". |
