I dunno about that. I had student loans for my grad school between 1987 and 1990. After graduation, I had a hard time finding a job and the loan company was constantly pestering me for money even though I was living at home and had zero income. One time a woman called me and insisted that I borrow money from friends and family to pay! Man, was I pissed.

Who knows - maybe the banks pressed the legislature into taking people's benefits away in lieu of pestering them for money.

Thank heavens I finished paying off those horrid things about five years ago.
